The Kerala Blasters Football Club has expressed profound disappointment and concern over an incident of alleged racism during its Indian Super League match against Bengaluru FC. This incident reportedly involved Bengaluru FC player Ryan Williams racially abusing Kerala Blasters defender Aiban Dohling. The episode unfolded during the inaugural match of the league's 10th season at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, with the alleged racist act taking place in the 82nd minute of a game that was ultimately won by Kerala Blasters.
Racism Has No Place in Football

"It has come to our attention that during the match, one of our players was subjected to a disrespectful gesture by a Bengaluru FC player," said a representative from Kerala Blasters. The club made it emphatically clear that there is no tolerance for racist or derogatory behaviour within their ranks or in football as a whole. "Racism, discrimination, and disrespectful actions have no place on the football pitch or anywhere else," they added.
Official Complaint Lodged
Kerala Blasters also announced that an official complaint regarding this issue had been lodged with appropriate authorities. They urged these bodies to conduct a thorough investigation into this disconcerting event. In their statement, they voiced deep dissatisfaction and worry over such regrettable incidents marring their opening match against Bengaluru FC.
A Call for Respectful Conduct
In conclusion, while expressing resentment over this unfortunate incident involving one of their players being subjected to racial abuse, Kerala Blasters emphasised their commitment towards maintaining respect and dignity on and off the field. The club reiterated its firm stance against any form of racism or discrimination within its ranks or in sport itself.
This incident serves as yet another reminder about how important it is for all stakeholders involved in sports - be it clubs, players, or fans - to adhere to the principles of respect and equality. It is incumbent upon everyone involved in football and other sports to ensure that they promote a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect, devoid of any form of discrimination or derogatory behaviour.
The Kerala Blasters' condemnation of this incident sends out a strong message against racism in sport. It underlines their firm belief in maintaining an environment where every player feels respected and valued regardless of their race or ethnicity. This incident is indeed regrettable, but it also provides an opportunity for all stakeholders within the world of football to reaffirm their commitment towards eradicating racism from the beautiful game.
