Jemimah Rodrigues Credits WCPL Stint for T20 World Cup Readiness

Jemimah Rodrigues, a prominent Indian cricketer, believes her participation in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) will enhance her ability to handle pressure in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Rodrigues will represent Trinbago Knight Riders and their first match is against the defending champions, Barbados Royals, on Friday.

Rodrigues: WCPL Key to World Cup Prep

"Firstly, just to come out and play cricket because for me, that’s how I see it before the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. I think these are the matches that I'm actually going to get as rest all will be my own preparation," Rodrigues said in an interaction organised by Fancode.

Preparation for T20 World Cup

Rodrigues views the WCPL as a crucial part of her preparation for the T20 World Cup. "The more you're in that situation and in those pressure moments, I think that's the best preparation you can have. So, for me, I look at it WCPL more as a preparation for the T20 World Cup," she added.

The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the UAE next month. The event was relocated from Bangladesh due to political unrest in the country. Rodrigues aims to refine certain aspects of her batting during the WCPL.

Focus on Batting Techniques

"Really looking forward to…a few things that I'm working on at nets and I am trying to implement them here. Because when you do it in practice, it's different. But when you do it in a match, it's way different," she explained.

While her primary focus remains on helping Trinbago Knight Riders secure the WCPL title, Rodrigues acknowledges the added responsibility she carries. "At the same time, I have an added responsibility playing for TKR to do whatever I can to make sure my team wins in the end," she said.

Veteran Support

Shikha Pandey, another experienced Indian player, will also play for Trinbago Knight Riders. She expressed her delight at having Jhulan Goswami as a mentor for the team. "I did feel that I'll be in an environment with her around also because of the WPL. So, this doesn't come in as a shocker that she's here. It's really nice for her to be here as a mentor. I kind of know her psyche. I played alongside her," Pandey remarked.

Pandey appreciates Goswami's presence and guidance within the team. "So, I have a fair idea about what she wants me to do. So, it's been really nice for me to be in the same team as her," she added.

Rodrigues' participation in WCPL is seen as a strategic move to prepare for high-pressure situations ahead of the T20 World Cup. Her focus on refining batting techniques and contributing significantly to her team's success highlights her commitment and readiness for upcoming challenges.
