India's Sports Community Pays Tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh's Steady Leadership and Wisdom

India's sports community expressed grief over the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a former Prime Minister known for his calm leadership and wisdom. Singh, aged 92, passed away at AIIMS after losing consciousness due to age-related health issues. His contributions to India's progress were fondly remembered by many.

Tributes Pour In for Dr Manmohan Singh

Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh shared his condolences on X, stating, "Sad news of the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. A visionary leader and a true statesman who worked tirelessly for India's progress. His wisdom and humility will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his loved ones."

Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj's former teammate and a Rajya Sabha member from the Aam Aadmi Party, echoed similar sentiments. He praised Singh as a gentleman and visionary leader, highlighting his calm leadership during crises and belief in India's potential.

Sports Figures Remember Singh's Leadership

Vinesh Phogat, a former wrestler and current Congress MLA in Haryana, described Singh as a man of wisdom, simplicity, and vision. She noted his role as a thinker and economist who provided India with new direction through economic reforms and global recognition.

Singh's tenure saw India host the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, marking the first major international multi-sport event since the 1982 Asian Games. This achievement was part of his broader vision for India's development on the world stage.

Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, and Rani Rampal also expressed their sorrow over Singh's demise. They joined others in acknowledging his significant impact on India's political and economic landscape.

Legacy of Economic Reforms

Before becoming Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Singh served as finance minister under P V Narasimha Rao. He was instrumental in the 1991 economic reforms that initiated liberalisation in India. His intellect and grace earned him widespread respect throughout his career.

Singh retired from active politics in April this year after serving over three decades as a Rajya Sabha MP. His legacy includes not only his political achievements but also his personal qualities of humility and wisdom.

The nation mourns the loss of Dr. Manmohan Singh, whose leadership style and contributions will be remembered for years to come. His influence on India's progress remains significant, leaving an indelible mark on the country's history.
