Sports Ministry Announces Revised List of Indian Contingent for Asian Games 2022 - Addition of New Athletes and Replacements
The Indian Sports Ministry on Thursday unveiled an updated list of the national contingent for the upcoming Asian Games. The revised list includes 22 new athletes and names 25 replacements, which encompass athletes, coaches, and support staff. Additionally, Modern Pentathlon was introduced to the list, thereby increasing India's representation to a total of 39 sporting disciplines at this prestigious event.
India's Strong Contingent

According to the latest update from the sports ministry, India will be sending a robust team of 655 athletes to compete in the Asian Games — scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China from September 23rd to October 8th. Alongside these sportspersons are their dedicated teams of coaches and support staff numbering up to 260 individuals. This brings India’s overall contingent tally for these games up to an impressive figure of 921 people.
New Additions Across Disciplines
In shooting events, Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa have been added as fresh entrants. Athletics will see new faces with Amlan Borgohain, Preeti and Prachi joining its ranks. Ju-Jitsu has also expanded its team with Anwesha Deb, Nikita Chaudhary, Uma Maheshwar Kamal Singh and Tarun Yadav being included.In aquatics discipline Janhvi Choudhary is a fresh addition while Suraj Yadav has been included in Wushu category. Meanwhile Mayank Chaphekar will be representing India single-handedly in modern pentathlon.
Additions in Kurash And Cycling Team
Kurash squad has welcomed four new members namely Vishal Ruhil Keshav Suchika Tariyal and Jyoti Tokas while men’s team pursuit cycling has also added four more athletes including Venkappa Shivappa Kengalgutti, and Neeraj Kumar.
The updated list of contingent not only showcases the depth of talent in India's sporting ecosystem but also highlights the country's determination to make a significant impact at the Asian Games.
