India’s Medal Tally Soars To 20 At Paris Paralympics, Surpasses Tokyo 2020 Record
India's Mariyappan Thangavelu secured a bronze medal in the men's high jump T63 event at the Stade de France during the Paris 4 Paralympics on Tuesday. This achievement contributed to India's record-breaking performance at a single edition of the Paralympic Games.

Sharad Kumar also clinched a silver medal in the same event, helping India surpass its previous best medal tally of 19 from Tokyo 2020. The current count stands at 20 medals, including three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze.
Record-Breaking Performance
Avani Lekhara and Sumit Antil successfully defended their titles in women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 and men's javelin throw F64 events, respectively. Additionally, Nitesh Kumar won gold in the men's singles SL3 category in para badminton.
Apart from Sharad Kumar's silver, other silver medallists include Ajeet Singh (men's javelin throw F64), Yogesh Kathuniya (men's discus throw F56), Thulasimathi Murugesan (women's singles SU5 para badminton), Manish Narwal (men's 10m air pistol SH1), Nishad Kumar (men's high jump T47), and Suhas Yathiraj (men's singles SL4 para badminton).
Bronze Medal Achievements
In addition to Mariyappan Thangavelu, several athletes have earned bronze medals. These include Preethi Pal (women's 100m T35 and women's 200m T35), Mona Agarwal (women's 10m air rifle standing SH1), Rubina Francis (women's 10m air pistol SH1), Sundar Singh Gurjar (men's javelin throw F46), Deepthi Jeevanji (women's 400m T20), Manisha Ramadass (women's singles SU5 para badminton), Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan (women's singles SH6 para badminton), and the archery pair of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar (mixed team compound open).
The Paris Paralympics will conclude on September 8. India's remarkable performance has set a new benchmark for future games, showcasing the talent and determination of its athletes on an international stage.
