India Secures Spot in T20 World Cup Final After Dominating England
India showcased their immense talent with a commanding 68-run victory over England in the T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday. This triumph secured their place in the final against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a brisk 57 off 39 balls, supported by Suryakumar Yadav's 47 off 36, as India posted 171 for seven in a rain-affected match.

India's Bowling Masterclass
England struggled to chase the target, getting bowled out for 103 in 16.4 overs. Axar Patel's left-arm spin proved crucial, taking three wickets for 23 runs. Kuldeep Yadav also excelled, claiming three wickets for 19 runs, which dismantled England's middle order. The Indian bowlers adapted well to the slow pitch with low bounce, making it difficult for England to build partnerships.
Rohit Sharma's decision to use Axar Patel during the powerplay paid off as he struck twice quickly, leaving England reeling. Kuldeep Yadav complemented Axar's efforts perfectly on a pitch that favoured spinners throughout the tournament. Jos Buttler (23 off 15), Harry Brook (25 off 19), and Jofra Archer (21 off 15) were the only English batsmen to reach double figures.
Rain Interruptions and Key Performances
The match faced multiple rain interruptions, delaying the start by an hour and 15 minutes and causing another long halt when India was at 65 for two in eight overs. Despite these interruptions, Rohit Sharma adapted well to the conditions, playing late and behind the stumps. His strategic play included guiding a ball over backward point off Archer in the second over.
Rishabh Pant was dismissed early for four runs, mistiming a flick to be caught at midwicket off Sam Curran. Following this, Rohit Sharma and Adil Rashid had an engaging battle where Rohit used both reverse and conventional sweeps effectively. Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit at the crease and continued to build India's innings despite the rain delays.
Middle Order Contributions
After the rain break, England employed leg-spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone from both ends but couldn't contain Rohit and Suryakumar. A full toss from Rashid was dispatched over short fine leg for four, setting the tone for India's middle overs. The 13th over from Curran yielded 19 runs with Suryakumar hitting two sixes and Rohit adding a maximum.
Hardik Pandya contributed significantly with a quickfire 23 off 13 balls, hitting two flat sixes that pushed India's total forward. Ravindra Jadeja added an unbeaten 17 off nine balls, including two crucial fours off Archer in the penultimate over. Axar Patel's six off Jordan in the final over took India past the 170 mark.
Setting Up for the Final
India's comprehensive performance exacted revenge for their crushing defeat against England in the 2022 semi-final at Adelaide Oval. Rohit Sharma became the first Indian captain to lead his team into three ICC global finals within a year: the World Test Championship, ODI World Cup, and now the T20 World Cup.
Rohit's leadership and strategic decisions were pivotal in India's dominant display. "We adapted to the conditions really well," said Rohit after the match. India remains unbeaten in this tournament and will hope that star batter Virat Kohli finds form in the final after scoring just nine runs off nine balls in this match.
The Indian team scored 53 runs in the last five overs of their innings, thanks to contributions from Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. This late surge ensured they set a challenging target for England on a tricky pitch.
India's all-round bowling attack and effective use of spinners were key factors in their comfortable defence of the total. As they prepare for their third T20 World Cup final appearance, they will aim to continue their winning momentum against South Africa on Saturday.
