India Hails Aman Sehrawat's Historic Bronze in Paris Olympics Wrestling

Wrestler Aman Sehrawat's bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics on Friday resonated deeply with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, and former cricketer Virender Sehwag. They led the tributes to the 21-year-old, who increased India's medal tally to six.

Sehrawats Historic Olympic Bronze

Sehrawat, competing in the 57kg freestyle category, was raised by his grandfather after losing his parents as a child. He defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz in a high-stakes third-place match, becoming India's youngest Olympic medallist. Previously, P V Sindhu held this title with her silver medal at the 2016 Games at 21 years, one month, and 14 days old.

Prime Minister Modi's Praise

Prime Minister Modi praised Sehrawat's determination, stating, "More pride thanks to our wrestlers! Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for winning the Bronze Medal in the Men's Freestyle 57kg at the Paris Olympics. His dedication and perseverance are clearly evident. The entire nation celebrates this remarkable feat."

Wrestling has consistently brought medals for India since 2008. Sushil Kumar started this trend with a bronze in Beijing 2008. Following him, Yogeshwar Dutt in 2012, Sakshi Malik in 2016, and Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia in 2021 have maintained this tradition.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah's Commendation

BCCI secretary Jay Shah also praised Sehrawat on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "What a way to earn your first Olympic medal! Aman Sehrawat, your performance in the bronze medal match was top-notch! You have battled through every adversity, and despite the struggles, you've come out on top. The entire nation is proud of you, Aman!"

Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia from Chhatrasal Stadium congratulated Sehrawat as well. "Well done Aman Sehrawat brother! Congratulations to this great wrestler for the bronze medal. Aman, you played very well. Indian wrestling never returns empty handed from the Olympics since 2008," he said.

Tributes from Sports Icons

Olympic gold-medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra highlighted Sehrawat's humility. "Your determination on the mat, your focus, and the way you carry yourself with humility and grace—these are the qualities that make a true champion. Securing bronze in Paris is a huge achievement, but more than that, it's a reflection of your relentless pursuit of excellence. I'm incredibly proud of you, and I know you've made the entire nation proud too. Keep shining, champ!" wrote Bindra on X.

Legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag also expressed his admiration for Sehrawat's achievement. "Congratulations Aman Sehrawat for the wrestling bronze at Paris Olympics. You have made us all so proud," he said.

Sehrawat's journey from training at Chhatrasal Stadium to standing on the Olympic podium is a testament to his resilience and dedication. His victory ensures that India's wrestling tradition at the Olympics remains unbroken.

The young wrestler's success story is not just about winning a medal but also about overcoming personal adversities and making his country proud on an international stage.
