Will Aston Villa Dethrone Manchester City In Premier League This Year?

Manchester City, winner of the Premier League 2022-23 edition, was riding high in the tournament until they faced Aston Vila. On Wednesday, the Pep Guardiola's side faced a humiliating defeat against Unai Emery's side at the Villa Park. Last week, Man City boss Pep Guardiola claimed that he is sure that Manchester City will retain the Premier League title, but Aston Villa's dominating game forced the City back to the drawing board.

Leon Bailey emerged hero for Villa in the 74th minute, when he dribbled Josko Gvardiol and hit the net with a heavy deflection off Rúben Dias. But this was just half of the story or call it a nightmare for the City fans.

Villa did 22 strikes at the City's goalpost, while City couldn't muster a meaningful attempt. Ederson looked like a lone warrior in the game who was taking arrows on his chest, but couldn't manage to stop the deflecting strike from Bailey.

After the match, which resulted in the favor of Aston Villa 1-0, Manchester City boss Guardiola said "The better team won."

"Aston Villa were better than us in this match. We struggled to make some processes and it was really difficult because they are physical and able to control many aspects. That is the reason why they are up there, playing good football and we could not do it. It's my duty, my job to find a way to come back because over many years together we were able to find a way to play games, sometimes playing well, sometimes not, but always we found a way to do it and now we are struggling," Guardiola added.
