Embolo Scores in Comeback as Switzerland Secures Win Over Hungary

Switzerland's Breel Embolo celebrated a significant personal and team victory as he scored in added time to secure a 3-1 win over Hungary in the European Championship opener for both teams. This marked a triumphant return for Embolo, who had been sidelined from international play for 18 months due to a series of injuries, including a severe cruciate ligament tear. His goal not only clinched the win but also symbolized his comeback after being unable to participate in much of the pre-tournament camp and missing two friendlies.

Embolos Comeback Seals Swiss Win

Swiss coach Murat Yakin expressed relief and hope regarding Embolo's return, highlighting the uncertainty that surrounded his recovery from the long-term injury. Captain Granit Xhaka praised Embolo's importance to the team, emphasizing his role both on and off the field. The match against Hungary saw Switzerland at risk of losing their lead as Hungary found new life in the second half, but Embolo's goal ultimately sealed the victory for Switzerland.

The match also featured strategic surprises from Yakin, who included forward Kwadwo Duah and midfielder Michel Aebischer in the starting lineup, both of whom scored. Duah's goal, confirmed after a video review, was his first in just his second game for Switzerland. Aebischer's goal came just before halftime, showcasing his ability to find space and deliver a precise shot.

Hungary's coach Marco Rossi critiqued his team's passive first-half performance and acknowledged a tactical misunderstanding that allowed Aebischer too much freedom on the field. Despite Barnabas Varga's diving header in the 66th minute igniting hopes for a Hungarian comeback, Switzerland maintained their lead until Embolo's decisive finish.

With this victory, Switzerland is now second in Group A, following host Germany's win over Scotland. Hungary faces Germany next, hoping to avenge their draw at the last European Championship. Switzerland looks forward to their upcoming match against Scotland, aiming to build on their winning momentum.
