Djokovic Advances to Monte Carlo Masters Semifinals, First Time Since 2015
Novak Djokovic has once again proven his mettle on the clay courts by securing a spot in the semifinals at the Monte Carlo Masters, a feat he last achieved in 2015. The world's top-ranked Serb player showcased his skill and determination in a challenging match against Alex De Minaur, clinching victory with scores of 7-5, 6-4 on Friday. This win not only marks Djokovic's return to the semifinals after several years but also sets a new record as he enters his 77th Masters 1000 semifinal.

"I am very happy to be back in the semis. It has been a while," Djokovic expressed post-match. Despite facing difficulties in maintaining consistency and losing his serve three times against De Minaur, Djokovic managed to break his opponent five times. The match was intense, with De Minaur pushing Djokovic to the limits with a solid baseline game. However, Djokovic's experience and skill saw him through, especially during crucial moments where De Minaur faltered.
At 36, Djokovic has become the oldest semifinalist in the tournament's Open era, which started in 1968. The match was described by Djokovic as "tough and very tiring," highlighting the demanding nature of clay courts that lead to prolonged rallies. Despite not playing his best tennis, Djokovic views each victory as a step forward, especially as he prepares for the upcoming French Open.
In another quarterfinal match, Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner faced Holger Rune in a repeat of last year's semifinal. Sinner emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle, setting up a semifinal clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated Karen Khachanov with relative ease. Tsitsipas, a two-time champion at Monte Carlo, has not dropped a set in this year's tournament and looks forward to reliving past successes on these courts.
Djokovic is set to face either Ugo Humbert or Casper Ruud, known for his expertise on clay courts, in his next match. As the tournament progresses, fans and players alike are keenly watching these matchups unfold, each bringing their own challenges and opportunities for glory on the prestigious clay courts of Monte Carlo.
