The Delhi government has issued a directive to expedite the installation of high-security registration plates (HSRP) and color-coded stickers on vehicles in the city. This move comes as only 13 lakh out of over 30 lakh vehicles in Delhi currently have HSRP, according to officials.

Delhi Revs Up Vehicle Safety with HSRP and Color-Coded Stickers

Transport Minister's Review and Appeal

In a recent meeting, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot reviewed the status of HSRP installation and urged all Delhi residents to promptly install HSRP and color-coded stickers on their vehicles. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in fostering a safer and more organized vehicular environment in the capital.

Single-Window Portal for Application

The Delhi transport department has set up a single-window portal where users can conveniently apply for both HSRP and color-coded stickers. These installations are mandatory for all vehicles in Delhi, and the minister encouraged citizens to contribute to a safer and more organized vehicular environment.

Collaboration with SIAM and Vendors

During the meeting, Transport Minister Gahlot directed the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and its assigned vendors to expedite the process of installing HSRP on vehicles in the city. As of now, over 13 lakh vehicles have already been equipped with HSRP.

Background and Regulations

In December 2018, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a notification regarding the display of registration marks on motor vehicles under the Central Motor Vehicles Rule (CMVR) of 1989. The unique high-security registration plate is electronically linked to the vehicle after its affixation. Additionally, color-coded stickers are used to identify the fuel type of vehicles: orange for diesel, light blue for petrol and CNG, and grey for all other vehicles.

Booking and Installation Process

Vehicle owners can book HSRP and color-coded stickers for installation through SIAM and other designated websites. Two-wheelers are exempted from the requirement of fuel-type stickers.

Fines for Non-Compliance

All vehicles in Delhi are required to be fitted with HSRP and color-coded stickers as per various court and government orders. Violators are liable to a fine of up to Rs. 10,000 imposed by the Transport Department.

The Delhi government's initiative to expedite the installation of HSRP and color-coded stickers aims to enhance road safety, streamline vehicle identification, and promote a more organized vehicular environment in the city. By adhering to these regulations and promptly installing the required plates and stickers, vehicle owners can contribute to a safer and more efficient transportation system in Delhi.
