Yuvraj Singh Could Have Died...: Yograj Singh's On World Cup Winner's Battle Against Cancer

Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, recently made a heartfelt statement about his son's battle with cancer during the 2011 World Cup. He expressed that he would have been proud even if Yuvraj had succumbed to cancer while playing in the tournament. Yuvraj's performance was crucial in India's victory after a 28-year wait.

Yograj shared his thoughts on the show "Unfiltered by Samdish," recalling how Yuvraj played through immense pain. "For our country, if Yuvraj Singh had died from cancer and had won India the World Cup, I would have been a proud father. I still am very proud of him. I have told him this over the phone as well. I wanted him to play even when he was spitting blood. I told him, 'Don't worry, you won't die. Win this World Cup for India,'" he said.

Yuvraj's Stellar Performance

During the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh was named Player of the Tournament. He scored 362 runs in eight innings, averaging 90.50 with a strike rate of 86.19. His contributions included four fifties and a century, making him an indispensable part of India's success.

In addition to his batting prowess, Yuvraj also excelled with the ball. He took 15 wickets in nine innings at an average of 25.13 and an economy rate of 5.02, including one five-wicket haul. His all-round performance earned him four Player of the Match awards during the tournament.

Yograj's Reflections on Potential

Despite Yuvraj's significant achievements in both the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, Yograj believes his son could have reached even greater heights. "Yuvraj Singh, if he had worked even 10 percent like his father, he would have become a great cricketer," Yograj remarked.

After India's World Cup triumph in April 2011, Yuvraj faced another challenge when he was diagnosed with cancer eight months later. This diagnosis sidelined him for a year from international cricket.

Yuvraj made a remarkable comeback to international cricket in September 2012 during a T20I match against New Zealand. His return marked a significant moment not only for him but also for Indian cricket fans who admired his resilience and dedication.
