Women's Premier League (WPL 2024): Lea Tahuhu Joins Gujarat Giants In Place Of Lauren Cheatle

For the upcoming edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2024), Gujarat Giants on Saturday named New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu as the replacement for Australia's left-arm fast bowler Lauren Cheatle. According to the BCCI's schedule for the Women's Premier League (WPL 2024), the prestigious franchise tournament will commence on February 23.

As per the schedule, five franchise teams namely Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriors will play 22 matches to claim the glittering trophy.

Gujarat Giants had added New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu to its kitty for Rs 30 lakhs during the WPL mini-auction.

"Gujarat Giants (GG) named Lea Tahuhu as a replacement for Lauren Cheatle for the upcoming edition of the TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024, starting February 23, 2024," the Women's Premier League (WPL) said in a statement.

Kiwi speedster toppeled 78 and 109 wickets in 80 T20Is and 93 ODIs, respectively.

According to the reports, Australia's Cheatle withdrew her name from the upcoming Women's Premier League (WPL 2024) due to a medical procedure to remove skin cancer from her neck.

Last year, Gujarat Giants ended at the bottom of the points table as the team managed to win on 2 matches out of 8 games. The inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) was a big hit, after which, the cricket governing body decided to organize its second edition.
