Why Virat Kohli Was Removed From Captaincy? Answers Sourav Ganguly

Why Virat Kohli was removed from captaincy when he is still playing cricket? This is a question that every cricket fan asked when Rohit Sharma took over the reigns of Team India in 2022. But the question remained unanswered for almost two years.

Recently, former Indian captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly opened up on his decision to replace Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as the captain. Ganguly said had observed great leadership skills in Rohit Sharma and considering his IPL record for the Mumbai Indians, he decided to name him as captain.

Sourav Ganguly And Virat Kohli

Proving Sourav Ganguly's gut feeling right, Rohit Sharma led Team India unbeaten to the World Cup final in 2023, However, luck did not favour the men in blue and Australia emerged as world champions.

In a conversation with RevSportz, Sourav Ganguly said, "Look at the way he captained in the World Cup. Taking India to the final. I think India was the best team in the competition till they lost the final. So he is a good captain, IPL trophies. I am not surprised by the way he led. He became the captain when I was the BCCI president, and I am not surprised by the way he has led the team. I made him the Indian captain because I saw the talent in him, and I am not surprised by what he has done."

Rohit Sharma is currently leading the side in the test series against England, where Team India bagged a record of 17th straight win on home soil. India vs England fifth test is slated for Dharamsala from March 7.
