Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma To Play T20 World Cup? Here's A Big News For Cricket Lovers

A piece of good news is expected for Indian cricket fans on Wednesday as senior men's selection committee led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar is likely to pick Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan. Reports said both the senior cricketers are keen to play the T20 World Cup slated for 2024, but selectors want them to rejoin the squad for the Afghanistan series first.

According to reports, national selectors Shiv Sunder Das and Salil Ankola will be joined by chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Cape Town during the second Test. They are likely to speak with Virat and Rohit about their near future plans and will also talk to coach Rahul Dravid regarding the same.

Indias Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been away from the shorter format since the 2022 World Cup. Though they played franchise cricket in between, but representing the national side is something above everything.

A BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity that suspense over the final XI continues. "Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya aren't fit. The Afghanistan series won't tell you anything. Everything will be decided based on the first month of IPL," he said.

The report added that selectors are likely to pick 25 to 30 names for the T20 World Cup based on players' performances in the series against Afghanistan and in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). There are strong possibilities of young guns getting tickets to the World Cup which has been scheduled to take place between June 4 to 30 in the Caribbean and the United States.
