Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Surpass Yuvraj Singh To Achieve This Record

Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on Sunday achieved another significant milestone in their glittering careers, when featured in their 9th ICC event final during the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand. This achievement places them at the top of the list for the most appearances in ICC event finals, overtaking the previous record held by former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj Singh, renowned for his contributions to Indian cricket, previously held the record with eight appearances in ICC finals. However, this Champions Trophy final saw Kohli and Sharma stepping ahead to make their 9th appearance, thus setting a new world record. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja, the star all-rounder, has matched Yuvraj's record by marking his 8th appearance in an ICC final.

The Indian team, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, showcased exceptional prowess throughout the tournament. Competing in Group A alongside Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand, India emerged victorious in all their group matches. Their winning streak continued into the semi-finals, where they clinched a win against Australia, demonstrating their dominance in the competition.

New Zealand's journey to the final was nearly flawless, with only one defeat in the group stage - that being against India. The Black Caps secured their spot in the final by defeating South Africa in the 2nd semi-final, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown against the Men in Blue in the ultimate match of the tournament.

This historical achievement by Kohli and Sharma highlights their significant contributions to Indian cricket, further solidifying their positions as leading figures in the sport. It's also pertinent to note the impressive records of other cricketers in ICC finals, with Yuvraj Singh and Ravindra Jadeja having eight appearances, followed by Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara with seven, and Muttiah Muralitharan, Ricky Ponting each with six finals appearances.

As the cricket world celebrates this milestone, the focus remains on the Champions Trophy 2025 final, where India and New Zealand vie for the prestigious title.
