Vinod Kambli's Health Update: Was He Drunk While Holding Sachin Tendulkar's Hand? Friend Clears The Air

At an event honoring their legendary childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar, two former cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, shared a moment that touched the hearts of many. A video from the event went viral, showing Kambli, visibly emotional, trying to hold Tendulkar's hands. It was a poignant scene, a reminder of their shared history and the contrasting paths their lives had taken.

This was not the first time Kambli had been in the spotlight recently. Just a month earlier, another clip had surfaced, showing him struggling to walk. The images painted a troubling picture of the once-dashing left-hander whose exploits on the cricket field had once mesmerized fans worldwide. Yet, amidst the concern and whispers, his close friend Marcus Couto offered clarity.

"Kambli wasn't drunk," Couto told The Times of India. "He hasn't touched alcohol in over a year. He was simply overwhelmed to meet Sachin after so many years." Tendulkar, who greeted Kambli warmly, shared a brief but heartfelt reunion on stage. The moment was heavy with nostalgia, as memories of their teenage partnership under Achrekar's guidance came flooding back.

Former cricketer Sameer Dighe, who had played alongside Kambli for 14 years, also shared his emotions. "He hugged me and called out, 'Samya!' It broke my heart to see him in his current state. I had tears in my eyes. I pray for his good health."

Despite Kambli's battle with severe health issues and a past marred by alcohol addiction, those who cared for him have not entirely given up. Couto revealed that Kambli has undergone rehabilitation 14 times, often with limited success. Yet, Couto and his brother Ricky continue to visit him, offering support.

However, many of Kambli's contemporaries have grown weary. Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team, expressed both concern and frustration. "Kapil Dev has made it clear-we are willing to help him financially for rehab, but he needs to take the first step. He has to check in willingly."

The cricketing fraternity's patience, however, is wearing thin. Sandhu recalled how Kapil had once secured a job for Kambli as a cricket expert, but Kambli's lack of commitment led to disappointment. "We've tried everything, but his troubles always trace back to alcohol. It's heartbreaking to see such a talented cricketer fade away."

Despite the challenges, there is still a glimmer of hope. The 1983 champions, who had previously rallied to support Anshuman Gaekwad during his cancer treatment, are ready to extend their helping hands to Kambli-provided he helps himself first.

As the cricketing world watches, one thing remains clear: Kambli's story is not just one of lost potential but also a reminder of the power of friendship, the struggle for redemption, and the importance of taking responsibility for one's life. The ball is now in Kambli's court, and everyone hopes he plays his best shot.
