The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League is now set to begin on March 28, a slight shift from the earlier plan to kick off on March 26. Despite this adjustment, the final is still scheduled for May 31, ensuring the tournament's duration remains intact.

📅 Why the Delay?

The decision to push back the start by two days comes as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awaits clarity on the assembly election dates in key states - including Assam, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu. With election schedules still unannounced, finalising travel, security, and venue logistics for teams and officials has become challenging.

The BCCI's IPL Governing Council is expected to meet soon to firm up the full fixtures. In election years, the league has previously opted to announce match schedules in phases to accommodate polling arrangements - and that possibility is being considered again.
