This Cricketer Accepts Age Fudging; Statement Puts Question Mark On Credibility Of Cricket Associations

Former India spinner Amit Mishra, who represents IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), recently accepted age fudging. During the podcast, the host asked Amit Mishra about his age referring to his and Rohit Sharma casual chat during an IPL match over veteran spinner's age and the famous "what 40" comment, Amit Mishra said he did a year's fudging and his coach helped him out in doing so.

Diving into the past, Amit Mishra said, "his coach called his parents and asked for one more year for him. It was quite an emotional story. He was surprised and asked, 'How?' it is going to happen, then the coach replied 'from now onwards, calculate yourself one year younger; so he then got two more years to play, to which, he agreed".

The host then cross-questioned saying Rohit Sharma was making fun of you, that he debuted when he was in his nappies, and did you make your debut when you were 20? before Amit Mishra replied: "Yes! He was 20-21."

The veteran further said "What if I had questioned that are you 37, what would have happened? But I thought, it's okay, we were joking, and he joked with me. And that's how it is with me, joking around with him. It's been going on for a long time, not just today."

Rohit Sharma and Amit Mishra's funny conversation was really liked by fans at that time. But now when former India cricketer has accepted the foul play, it puts question marks on the credibility of coaches, state cricket organisations, and BCCI-approved bodies who check the documents of players and allow them to play under certain categories.

Such kind of age frauds purportedly would have been done by several cricketers, which impacted many other budding cricketers.
