T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar Were Against Hardik Pandya's Selection, Say Reports

Since the Mumbai Indians team management decided to give reigns of the team to Hardik Pandya and asked senior player Rohit Sharma, a five-time IPL winning captain, to play under him, everything between the two ace players of the Indian cricket team doesn't look good. A cold war is going on and relations between both the Mumbai stars soured. Groupism, which has always been in the backdrop, opened up and became the talk of the town.

The divide was not restricted to franchise cricket only. According to the reports, Rohit Sharma and some of the selectors including chief selector Ajit Agarkar were not in favor of picking Hardik Pandya for the T20 World Cup 2024 slated to be held in June in the USA and West Indies.

Rohit Was Against Pandya s Selection

The report suggested that Hardik Pandya's inconsistent performance in recent matches and fitness were the biggest reasons against his selection, however, the management named him in the 15-men squad keeping his past performances in view.

The report highlighted some 'pressure' on the selectors who named Hardik Pandya in India's T20 World Cup squad. The report also claimed that skipper Rohit Sharma may step down after the T20 World Cup 2024.

Hardik Pandya In IPL 2024:

In 13 games, he has scored only 200 runs at a strike-rate of 144.93, while also taking 11 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 10.59. Under Hardik Pandya's captaincy, Mumbai Indians performed worst in their Indian Premier League history.
