Suresh Raina Warns Pakistan on T20 World Cup Boycott, Blames Bangladesh Board for Crisis

Former India batter Suresh Raina has taken a firm stand in the growing debate over a possible boycott of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India, squarely blaming the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for triggering the crisis and warning Pakistan against taking a similar path.

Suresh Raina said cricket boards refusing to travel to India risk severe punishment from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and could suffer long-term damage to their standing in world cricket. According to him, global attention, revenue, and competitive value remain closely tied to tournaments hosted in India.

Reacting to reports of a possible "solidarity boycott" by Pakistan, Raina delivered a blunt message to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, stressing that the ICC would not take such decisions lightly.

"As the ICC chairman said, they're going to take strict action against those who are not coming to India," Suresh Raina said as quoted by NDTV, adding that skipping matches could lead to consequences far beyond the 2026 tournament. He warned that teams refusing to participate could face restrictions on future events and lose influence within the global cricket system.

Raina also referred to reports suggesting the ICC is considering unprecedented sanctions, including possible suspension or reduced participation rights for boards that opt out.

The controversy began after Bangladesh declined to travel to India, citing security concerns, leading the ICC to remove the team from the tournament and replace it with Scotland. Raina rejected Bangladesh's reasoning and held the BCB responsible for the outcome.

"We provided the security, everything was there. I think it's their fault," Raina said, insisting that adequate arrangements had been made by the hosts.

He added that Bangladesh's absence weakens the competition itself. "Their spinners understand Indian conditions very well. They're going to lose out so much by not playing," Raina noted, calling it a missed cricketing opportunity.
