Sri Lanka Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga Achieves This Record, Know Why RCB Fans Have A Facepalm Reaction

Wanindu Hasaranga, the new skipper for Sri Lanka cricket team for T20 format, surpassed former captain and speedster Lasith Malinga to take the highest number of wickets in T20 for their national side. During the second T20 match at Dambulla against Afghanistan, Wanindu Hasaranga achieved the feat of becoming the second Sri Lankan player to pick 100 T20 wickets.

Wanindu Hasaranga surpassed Lasith Malinga's record of taking 100 wickets. The pacer took 76 matches to claim 100 T20 wickets, while the spinner did the same in only 63 matches. Overall, the record of the quickest to 100 wickets is registered against Rashid Khan's name, who did the same in 53 matches.

Since 2019, the leg-spinner has taken the highest number of wickets in T20.

Wanindu Hasaranga was also a part of the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but franchise owners decided to release him ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). On one side, cricket lovers were happy for Hasaranga's feat, and on the other side, RCB fans reacted with a facepalm as Wanindu Hasaranga could have powered Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to present a tough challenge for other teams at the IPL 2024.

In Monday's match, Hasaranga picked up 2 wickets for 19 runs in his four overs at Dambulla.

After winning the toss, Afghanistan skipper Ibrahim Zadran invited Sri Lanka to bat first. Lankan Lions used the batting-friendly track of Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium to its best as openers Pathum Nissanka (25 runs off 11 balls) and Kusal Mendis (23 off 14 balls) started the inning in a blistering manner.

For the first wicket, both the batsmen added 45 runs before Nissanka was trapped by Azmatullah Omarzai. The other opener, Mendis, followed his teammate and got out to Fazalhaq Farooqi in the next over resulting in Afghanistan's powerful comeback.

Later, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Angelo Mathews built a strong partnership in the middle order to help Sri Lanka pin a total of 187/6 on the scoreboard.

Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 51 runs off 42 balls.

In reply, Afghanistan was bundled out for only 115 runs in 17 overs.
