Siddharth Mallya Upset After Instagram Removes RCB Celebration Video Over IPL Copyright Complaint

As the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title on 3 June 2025, the cricketing world erupted in celebration.

It was a historic moment, with Virat Kohli, the franchise's owners, and loyal supporters finally savouring the feeling of being IPL champions after an 18-year wait.

Even Siddharth Mallya, son of RCB's former owner and fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, joined the celebrations by posting an emotional video on Instagram. However, the video was later removed due to a copyright infringement claim.

In a follow-up video on Instagram, Siddharth explained that he had been suspended from posting on the platform because of the issue.

On Monday, he decided to publicly share his side of the story, revealing that the IPL authorities were behind the takedown.

"For some reason, Instagram decided to take the video down and proceeded to ban me from interacting on the app," he said in the clip.

He went on to add: "The ban was lifted yesterday. It turns out that after I got to the bottom of this, the video was brought down because IPL complained and said that I have violated their copyright police, which is absolutely nuts to me. The video was less than a minute long, and it was about me and my emotions. It's crazy that they took away my opportunity to celebrate and interact with fans. I am upset about it, and it's sad on the part of IPL. Such is life."

The original video, now removed, showed Siddharth visibly emotional as he celebrated RCB's win over Punjab Kings in the final. In the background, a television screen displaying the official broadcast could be seen-apparently the reason for the copyright issue.

"Eighteen long, long years... I don't even know what to say," he had said, holding back tears in the short video clip.
