Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who powered India on several occasions to register thumping victories, has come out heavily on skipper Shubman Gill. Highlighting Shubman Gill's attitude and behaviour with counterparts during the Lord's Test, Mohammad Kaif said, Gill's altercation with Zak Crawley energised England and inspired Ben Stokes to deliver an exceptional bowling performance.

Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley had engaged in a verbal spat after the Indian skipper accused English batter of wasting time towards the end of Day 3, while team India was seeking wickets in those crucial overs.

The confrontation turned India's approach in the match into an aggressive one, which led to some bad decisions.

Shubman Gill's Performance Under Scrutiny

Michael Vaughan, a former England captain, noted that Gill appeared less "technically tight" and lacked his usual composure when batting in the second innings of the third Test. Despite praising India's resilience on the final day at Lord's, Vaughan observed that Gill struggled to maintain his form.

In the series, Gill had shown impressive form by scoring a century in the first Test at Headingley and achieving both a century and double ton in Birmingham. These performances contributed significantly to India's 336-run victory. However, at Lord's, he managed only scores of 16 and 6.

Impact of On-Field Altercations

The incident between Gill and Crawley seemed to invigorate England for the remainder of the match. Vaughan remarked that when tensions rose on the third evening, it brought out the best in England for the rest of the game. He also mentioned that although Gill didn't appear as composed when batting on the fourth evening, his team displayed remarkable determination on Monday during an exciting Test match.

The loss at Lord's came despite efforts from all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and other tail-enders who fought back valiantly. The match highlighted how crucial maintaining composure is during high-pressure situations in cricket.
