Shikhar Dhawan Bats For Rohit Sharma, Gives Credit For Best Performances

At a time when everyone is criticizing skipper Rohit Sharma for back-to-back ducks against Afghanistan, Former Indian Opener Shikhar Dhawan comes out in support of the Mumbai star. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma opened Indian innings for almost a decade. In 115 matches, Shikhar and Rohit collectively notched over six thousand runs to give a powerful start to Indian innings.

In an interview with Time Of India, Shikhar Dhawan praised Rohit Sharma for always backing him. The left-hander said, "Rohit Sharma and I have formed one of the most successful opening partnerships for the Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket as per me. My collaboration with Rohit & his support at the other end at the top of the order has been instrumental in providing strong starts to the team, setting the foundation for successful chases and big totals."

"I seriously give credit for a lot of my best performances to Rohit's support. Rohit on the other end gives that sense of comfort and assurance. We have scored over 6000 runs together, with 19 century stands and 16 half-century stands," Dhawan added.

"I think our best innings was a 193-run opening stand against Australia in the fourth ODI at Mohali in 2019 & the second best will be against Pakistan in the 2018 Asia Cup in Dubai where we put together a 210-run stand for the first wicket," he further added.

Shikhar Dhawan played several match-winning knocks for Team India in his splendid career. In 167 ODIs, Shikhar Dhawan scored 6793 runs studded with 17 tons and 39 half-centuries averaging 44.1. While in T20Is, he struck 1759 runs with a highest of blitzkrieg 92.

With the red ball, he played 34 international matches to score 2315 runs. His test average was 40.61.
