Salary Of IPL 2025 Umpires Revealed As Ishan Kishan’s Bizarre Dismissal Stuns Fans

Umpiring is often seen as a thankless role in cricket. Along with the players, the on-field umpires and the third umpire are crucial to the game, yet they rarely receive the recognition they deserve.

While an umpire's poor decision is swiftly and widely criticised, good or impressive decisions seldom attract the appropriate praise. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is no different.

With limited public interest in the role of umpires, have you ever wondered what salary they earn during the T20 spectacle?

According to a report by India Today, on-field umpires in IPL 2025 earn ₹3 lakh per match, while fourth umpires receive ₹2 lakh. For context, each playing member, including the impact player, earns ₹7.5 lakh per game in IPL 2025. This match fee is separate from the player's contractual salary paid by their franchise.

The matter of umpiring came into the spotlight during a recent bizarre incident involving Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan in the IPL clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in Hyderabad.

Kishan, who had just opened his account in the previous over, attempted to glance pacer Deepak Chahar's first delivery, which was drifting down the leg side. The ball was safely collected by MI wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton, and neither he nor the bowler made any serious appeal for a caught behind.

On-field umpire Vinod Seshan appeared ready to signal a wide. However, to the astonishment of all, Kishan began to walk off, indicating he had edged the ball to the keeper.

Surprised by Kishan's gesture, Seshan too raised his finger.

MI captain Hardik Pandya, who had only appealed half-heartedly, was seen patting Kishan on the helmet and shoulders in a gesture of appreciation.

Replays, however, showed that the ball had moved away from Kishan's bat without making contact, and UltraEdge revealed no spike either.

It is generally believed that, more often than not, a batter knows when they have edged the ball.

"You think you have seen it all after all these years and yet I must admit the Ishan Kishan's dismissal leaves me perplexed," wrote commentator Harsha Bhogle on X, expressing his astonishment at the strange turn of events.

SRH ultimately lost the match to MI by seven wickets.
