Sai Sudharsan’s Ton Lifts GT, Breaks Fastest 2,000 IPL Runs Record of Chris Gayle

Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan turned his season around in spectacular fashion, hammering a fluent century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2026 clash on Friday.

After a slow start to the tournament, where he managed just 135 runs in six innings, Sudharsan looked like a completely different batter. His 57-ball hundred was built on precision and timing, featuring 11 boundaries and five sixes. More than the numbers, it was the ease with which he handled the innings that stood out.

Sudharsan took charge early, facing most of the deliveries in the powerplay and ensuring Gujarat Titans built momentum. He was particularly confident against experienced bowlers such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, rotating strike smartly while punishing loose deliveries.

The knock also placed him in an exclusive list-he became the 14th batter to register an IPL century against RCB and only the second from Gujarat Titans after Shubman Gill to achieve the feat.

Beyond the century, Sudharsan reached a significant career milestone. He became the fastest player in IPL history to reach 2,000 runs, achieving the landmark in just 47 innings. In doing so, he went past Chris Gayle, who had taken 48 innings.

With this performance, Sudharsan now has over 2,000 runs in the league, underlining his consistency at the top of the order. He also joins a select group of aggressive run-scorers, including Abhishek Sharma, Virender Sehwag, and Rishabh Pant, who have reached milestones at a rapid pace.

At one point, he was cruising at 85 off 49 balls, firmly in control of the innings and dictating terms. The knock not only revived his campaign but also reaffirmed his reputation as one of the most dependable young batters in the IPL.
