Sachin Tendulkar Clarifies Speculation on Next BCCI President: ‘Being Considered or Nominated…’

Former India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday addressed widespread speculation, confirming that he is not being considered for the role of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Recent rumours had suggested that Tendulkar could replace Roger Binny, who stepped down earlier this year after reaching the age limit of 70 under the BCCI constitution.

In an official statement, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd clarified: "It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumours have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations."

Currently, vice-president Rajeev Shukla is serving as acting BCCI president. The board is set to hold elections for office-bearers during its Annual General Meeting on September 28. Speculation about Tendulkar assuming the top post gained traction after a Dainik Jagran report hinted that a legendary cricketer, renowned for breaking multiple records, might be considered as a unanimous choice.

It is important to note that Tendulkar has never held any administrative position. While every former India player automatically becomes a member of their state cricket association, eligibility to contest for BCCI office-bearer posts requires a formal nomination from that association.

Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in cricket history, holds numerous records, including the most runs in both Tests and ODIs and the highest number of centuries in Test cricket. His record for most ODI centuries was surpassed by Virat Kohli during the 2023 World Cup, notably at Wankhede Stadium, the same venue where Tendulkar once dominated, in a semi-final against New Zealand.
