Rohit Sharma Says Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri Revived His Test Career

India achieved a remarkable 2-0 series victory against Bangladesh in Test cricket. The second Test, held in Kanpur, was affected by rain, causing the abandonment of play on Days 2 and 3. Despite these interruptions, India secured a win by seven wickets on Day 5, chasing down a target of 95 runs. This victory marked India's 18th consecutive home Test series win.

Rohit Sharma's leadership has propelled the Indian team to new heights. In a conversation with commentator Jatin Sapru, Rohit shared his gratitude towards former head coach Ravi Shastri and star player Virat Kohli for their support in promoting him as an opening batsman in Tests. He described this opportunity as his "second birth" in Test cricket.

Rohit's Journey as an Opener

Rohit recounted how Shastri and Kohli trusted him to open the innings despite the challenges involved. They encouraged him to play freely without pressure. "In the second innings, I was very grateful to Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli for giving me the opportunity to bat up the order," Rohit said during his chat with Sapru on YouTube.

He further explained that he embraced this chance wholeheartedly, regardless of whether it meant batting at different positions. "I knew I had to grab this opportunity, whether it meant opening, batting at No. 5 or 6, or even lower down the order," he added.

Freedom to Play Naturally

Rohit expressed his determination to play his natural game without succumbing to pressure. He stated that he would hit the ball if it was there to be hit, irrespective of whether it was the first ball of the Test or not. "My response to them was clear: I'll play my natural game and won't take the pressure of trying to survive," Rohit mentioned.

Shastri had long been eager for Rohit to open in Tests and had suggested it as early as 2015. However, Rohit noted that the decision wasn't entirely in his hands at that time.

Upcoming T20I Series

Following their successful Test series against Bangladesh, India is set to face them again in a three-match T20I series starting October 6 in Gwalior. Fans eagerly anticipate another thrilling contest between these two teams.

The Indian team's recent performances have solidified their reputation as a formidable force in international cricket under Rohit's captaincy. As they prepare for upcoming challenges, fans are hopeful for continued success on the field.
