Rohit Sharma Body-Shaming Controversy: BCCI Calls It 'Unfortunate'
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday reacted to Rohit Sharma body-shaming controversy. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed disappointment over Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed's comments and called them 'very unfortunate'.
BCCI Secretary criticised Congress leader and questioned the timing of such remarks, especially with India preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia on March 4.

Congress spokesperson had labelled Indian cricket team captain as 'fat' and described him as India's least impressive skipper. Her comments sparked a debate online and she faced backlashes for such remarks.
Later she deleted her post and issued a clarification along with an apology to the cricketer and his fans.
In a post, Shama said that her tweet was not intended to body-shame Rohit Sharma. She explained that it was a general comment about an athlete's fitness, asserting her belief that athletes should maintain fitness levels.
Defending Her Stance
Shama maintained her opinion that Rohit appeared slightly overweight compared to previous captains. She defended her right to express this view, emphasising the democratic nature of expressing opinions.
Former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan dismissed Shama's comments, suggesting they shouldn't be taken seriously. He highlighted Rohit's achievements as a World Cup-winning captain and noted her lack of understanding regarding match fitness and leadership qualities.
