Drop In Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli's ICC Test Rankings Following Poor Form Vs New Zealand

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of India's cricket stalwarts, have experienced a significant drop in the latest ICC Test rankings. Their recent performances during the home season against New Zealand were underwhelming. Rohit managed only 91 runs across six innings, while Kohli scored 93 runs in the same number of innings. This led to both players falling out of the top 20 rankings.

At the start of the home season, both players were comfortably placed within the top 10. However, after five Test matches, their rankings have plummeted. Kohli accumulated just 192 runs over 10 innings this season, averaging 21.33. Rohit's performance was even more disappointing with only 133 runs at an average of 13.3, marking his second-worst record as a captain at home.

Current Rankings of Indian Batters

The poor form has seen Kohli drop eight places to rank 22nd, while Rohit slipped two spots to 26th. In contrast, Rishabh Pant showcased consistent form during the New Zealand series and emerged as India's highest run-scorer with 261 runs. His efforts have propelled him five places up to sixth in the rankings with a total of 750 rating points.

Rank Player Rating Points
4 Yashasvi Jaiswal 777
6 Rishabh Pant 750
16 Shubman Gill 680
22 Virat Kohli 655
26 Rohit Sharma 629

Apart from Pant's rise, Yashasvi Jaiswal has dropped from third to fourth following his struggles in the Mumbai Test. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill holds the 16th position with a score of 680 rating points.

Global Standings in Test Cricket Rankings

The global rankings see former England captain Joe Root leading with an impressive 903 rating points. Kane Williamson follows closely despite missing three Tests against India. Harry Brook from England is third with 778 points, and Steve Smith is fifth, trailing Jaiswal by just 20 points.

This shift in rankings highlights how competitive international cricket remains and underscores the importance of consistent performance for maintaining high standings.
