RCB Vs KKR: Will Rains Affect First IPL Of 2025? Check Latest Kolkata Weather Report For Today
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 kicks off today (March 22) with a blockbuster clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens. However, the weather might not be in favor of cricket fans, as rain threatens to disrupt the season opener.
Will Rain Disrupt The IPL Opener?
In the last few days, Kolkata has witnessed persistent showers, and forecasts indicate a cloudy start to the day with intermittent rain expected. Accuweather suggests a 40% chance of rain during match hours, raising concerns about a possible delay or a truncated game. The state-of-the-art drainage system at Eden Gardens will likely be put to the test if rain interrupts play.

The IMD says, "A trough runs from central Odisha to Vidarbha, and there is wind confluence over east and adjoining central India due to the above trough and anticyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels."
The statement added: "Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds likely over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 20 and 21."
As things stand, conditions remain unpredictable, with the likelihood of rain continuing until Sunday (March 23). Fans will be keeping a close eye on the skies, hoping for a full match as KKR and RCB renew their intense rivalry on the field.
However, there is no reserve day for the IPL opener. Hence, each team will get one point each.
Grand Opening Planned
Adding to the spectacle, a grand opening ceremony featuring Bollywood stars is also scheduled before the match. Organizers will be hoping that the weather clears up in time to allow both the pre-match festivities and the cricketing action to proceed smoothly.
RCB Vs KKR Head To Head
In the head-to-head battle, KKR holds a strong advantage over RCB, having won 20 of their 34 IPL encounters. At Eden Gardens, the home team has an 8-4 record against their Bengaluru rivals. The last time these teams met here, KKR successfully defended a total of 222, edging past RCB in a thrilling contest.
With the stage set for another high-voltage clash, all eyes are now on the skies. Will the weather play spoilsport, or will cricket take center stage? Fans will be keeping their fingers crossed for uninterrupted action at Eden Gardens tonight.
