R Ashwin's Wife Prithi Opens Up On Family Emergency During Rajkot Test; Thanks Pujara, Rohit, Dravid For Help

Everyone was stunned and worried for Indian spin sensation Ravichandran Ashwin when he left the third test mid-way and went back home following some family medical emergency. But the picture needed to be clarified that what exactly had happened. At that time, the BCCI only informed that Ashwin had to fly back due to a 'family emergency' and requested media and fans to respect the cricketer's privacy.

Diving into the past, Ashwin's wife Prithi shared the terrifying experience when Ashwin's mother suddenly collapsed.

Prithi Narrates Family Emergency story

In a column in the Indian Express, Prithi said "During Rajkot, the kids had just got back from school when five minutes later, he (R Ashwin) picked up his 500th Test Wicket. And soon, all of us were on the phone answering all the congratulatory messages."

Prithi said she suddenly heard a scream and saw Aunty (Ashwin's mother) collapsed on the ground. She added that swiftly she was transported and admitted to the hospital. Prithi said that instead of calling Ashwin she decided to dial Cheteshwar Pujara to figure out how Ashwin can return to back home at the earliest.

"At that point, we had decided not to tell Ashwin because there wasn't good flight connectivity between Chennai and Rajkot," Prithi wrote in the column.

"So I dialed Cheteshwar Pujara and his family were of great help. And once we found a way out, I called up Ashwin because, after the scans, the doctor suggested it was better to have her son around. Over the phone, he sounded so broken and hung up. It took another 20-25 minutes to process what I told him and for him to call back. And thanks to Rohit (Sharma), Rahul bhai (Dravid) and the others in the team and the BCCI - who followed up all the way till he reached here - he got here late at night," she further added.

For the unversed, the BCCI arranged a special charter plain for the cricketer as he wanted to visit his mother and play the match the next day. The cricketer had also thanked BCCI secretary Jay Shah for helping him at such a crucial time.
