Not Hardik Pandya Or KL Rahul, Gautam Gambhir Wants This Player To Lead India Vs Sri Lanka

According to reliable sources, it has been learned that new Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir is clear about his choice for Indian captain in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. For the upcoming 3 T20 and 3 ODI match series against Sri Lanka, senior men's team selection committee led by former cricketer Ajit Agarkar will make team announcement today and reveal, who will lead Team India for the Sri Lanka series.

Shubman Gill, who led the team against Zimbabwe recently, vice-captain for India's World Cup winning team, Hardik Pandya, and senior wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul's names were running at the top for captaincy in absence as Rohit Sharma, who has announced his retirement from the shortest format and asked for time out from the ODI series against Sri Lanka after long and tiring ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024.

According to the reports, head coach Gautam Gambhir wants hard hitter Surya Kumar Yadav to take charge as skipper. Gambhir and Suryakumar were part of the IPL franchise KKR and the new coach purportedly wants to push SKY ahead keeping his potential in mind.

"Hardik Pandya was India's T2O vice-captain under Rohit Sharma. He is completely fit and available for the three-match T20I series and was supposed to lead the side but there is a very strong feeling that SKY would be the potential leader not only for the Sri Lanka series but till the 2026 World Cup," a BCCI source told media on conditions of anonymity.

Cricket fans are also discussing KL Rahul's chances of making a strong comeback to the side, and also that selectors may give him control of the team for the Sri Lanka series slated to start from July 27, 2024.
