Mumbai: Vinod Kambli Shares Insights On Relationship With Sachin Tendulkar

Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar are two of the most gifted cricketers to emerge from Mumbai's school cricket scene. Their record-breaking 664-run partnership for Shardashram Vidya Mandir against St. Xavier's in the Harris Shield on February 24, 1988, brought them early fame.

Their remarkable partnership captured national attention, propelling both into the spotlight. Sachin debuted for India in November 1989 during a tour of Pakistan. Kambli, however, had to wait until January 1993 to make his debut against England at Eden Gardens.

Career Trajectories

Kambli began his international career with promise, playing 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India. His last Test was against New Zealand in Cuttack in November 1995, and he played his final ODI against Sri Lanka in Sharjah in October 2000. Unfortunately, he was never selected for India again.

In contrast, Tendulkar's career soared, becoming legendary in cricket history. As their careers diverged significantly, rumours emerged about a rift between the two friends. However, Kambli has now addressed these speculations.

Friendship and Support

Kambli recently spoke about his relationship with Tendulkar on The Vickey Lalwani Show. "At that time, it came to my mind that Sachin didn't help. I was extremely frustrated. But Sachin did everything for me, including paying for my two surgeries in 2013. We spoke, and childhood friendship came forward," he shared.

Kambli also acknowledged Tendulkar's role in enhancing his game and being a constant support as he made several comebacks to the Indian team. "Sachin told me how to play. I made nine comebacks. We are cricketers; we get hurt. When we get out, we also get hurt," Kambli added.

The enduring friendship between Kambli and Tendulkar highlights the bond they share beyond cricketing achievements. Despite their differing career paths, their camaraderie remains strong.
