Root reached this milestone during the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's Stadium. He scored 103 runs off 121 balls, hitting 10 boundaries with a strike rate of 85.12.

This century marks Root's 34th in Test cricket, surpassing Cook's record of 33 centuries. Additionally, this is Root's 50th international century, making him only the ninth player to reach this landmark. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar holds the record with 100 international centuries.

Root now joins an elite group of cricketers who have scored 50 or more international centuries. This list includes icons like Virat Kohli (80), Ricky Ponting (71), Kumar Sangakkara (63), Jacques Kallis (62), Hashim Amla (55), Mahela Jayawardene (54), and Brian Lara (53). Among active players, only Virat Kohli has more than 50 international centuries.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma follows closely behind with 48 international centuries. Root's achievement places him in esteemed company and highlights his consistency and skill in international cricket.
