MS Dhoni Confirms Return: CSK Captain To Play In IPL 2026, Says CEO Kasi Viswanathan

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that MS Dhoni will continue to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The 44-year-old CSK captain remains one of the most iconic and popular players in the history of the league.

In an interview with Cricbuzz, Viswanathan stated, "MS has told us that he will be available for the next season," confirming Dhoni's participation. Earlier, he had revealed the same to his grandson Noah in an interview with Provoke Lifestyle magazine, saying that "he is not retiring for this IPL."

Dhoni has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings since the league's inception in 2008. Except for the two years when CSK were suspended, Dhoni has played every season for the franchise and led them to multiple IPL titles.

Meanwhile, trade talks between CSK and Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson have reportedly resumed ahead of the retention deadline on November 15. Though similar talks were held earlier without success, discussions are said to be back on track. However, whether Samson will be handed the captaincy remains uncertain, as Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently leading CSK. Rajasthan Royals are expected to seek a top CSK player in exchange for Samson.

CSK's top leadership, including CEO Kasi Viswanathan, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and coach Stephen Fleming, will hold meetings on November 10 and 11 to plan for the next IPL season. Dhoni is also expected to take part in these discussions.

Last season, Dhoni captained CSK for half of the tournament after Gaikwad was ruled out midway due to injury. Over his IPL career, Dhoni has played 248 matches for Chennai Super Kings and another 30 matches for Rising Pune Supergiant during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Dhoni's future in the IPL has long been a topic of speculation among fans and analysts. The latest confirmation from CSK's management finally puts those rumours to rest, assuring that the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman will return to lead Chennai in IPL 2026.
