Mohsin Naqvi To Succeed Jay Shah As Asian Cricket Council Chief: Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has been appointed as the new International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman. This historic move means Shah will vacate his roles as BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman. Discussions are ongoing about who will succeed him in these positions.

A report from news agency PTI suggests that Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi is the frontrunner to become the next ACC president. The formal announcement is expected later this year. "When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term," a PTI source stated. "When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over."

Jay Shah's Vision for ICC

Upon his unopposed election as ICC Chairman, Shah expressed his gratitude and outlined his vision for cricket's future. "I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council," he said. "I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket."

Shah emphasized the importance of balancing multiple formats, adopting advanced technologies, and expanding cricket into new global markets. He believes these steps are crucial for making cricket more inclusive and popular worldwide.

Future of Cricket Under Shah

Shah highlighted that while building on past lessons is essential, embracing innovation is equally important to elevate cricket's global appeal. He pointed out that including cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics marks a significant milestone for the sport's growth.

"The inclusion of our sport in the Olympics at LA 2028 represents a significant inflection point for the growth of cricket, and I am confident that it will drive the sport forward in unprecedented ways," Shah remarked.

As Shah transitions to his new role at ICC, attention now turns to who will fill his shoes at BCCI and ACC. The decision on Naqvi's appointment as ACC president is eagerly awaited by cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

This leadership change comes at a critical time for international cricket, with many looking forward to how these shifts will impact the sport's future trajectory.
