Mohammad Shami Faces Fresh Supreme Court Hearing in Ongoing Legal Dispute

Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami has once again been drawn into legal proceedings at the country's highest court, with the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday asking him to respond to transfer petitions filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.

A bench of Justices Manoj Misra and Manmohan agreed to examine the pleas, which seek to move multiple cases - including domestic violence proceedings - from courts in West Bengal to Delhi. Notices were issued to all parties, and Shami has been given time to file his reply, with the matter listed for hearing after four weeks.

The latest petitions add to Shami's ongoing legal troubles. The Supreme Court has already been dealing with a separate plea by his estranged wife seeking higher interim maintenance for herself and their minor daughter. In that matter, the court had issued notice to Shami in November last year.

The maintenance dispute stems from orders passed by the Calcutta High Court, which fixed interim maintenance at Rs 1.5 lakh per month for the wife and Rs 2.5 lakh per month for the daughter, while allowing arrears to be paid in instalments. The case traces back to 2018, when an FIR alleging domestic violence was registered against Shami in Kolkata, followed by a chargesheet and proceedings under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
