Ishant Sharma Breaches IPL Code Of Conduct, Slapped With Multiple Penalties

India pacer Ishant Sharma, who is representing the Gujarat Titans in Indian Premier League season 18 aka IPL 2025, has been slapped with multiple penalties for breaching the Code of Conduct. During the Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match, Ishant Sharma committed Level 1 offence according to Article 2.2 of IPL code of conduct. Though, his offence was not clearly mentioned in the statement shared by IPL authorities, but rule book says Article 2.2 breach is related to "any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings. For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board."

Cricket experts said that Ishant Sharma's reaction of frustration might be the reason for the penalties.

"Ishant Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," reads a statement by IPL officials.

Playing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the home ground for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans dominated the game as they first restricted the hosts to a low total of 153 runs and then easily chased it in only 16.4 overs.

Ishant Sharma turned out to be the most expensive bowler of the day for the Gujarat Titans as he conceded 53 runs in his 4 overs without getting any wicket.

Fortunately, the rest of the bowlers covered up well and allowed only 99 runs in remaining 16 overs.

A collective bowling effort and good batting were the reasons for the Gujarat Titans' dominating victory on Sunday evening.
