Ishan Kishan To Replace Virat Kohli For T20 World Cup?

Virat Kohli, the backbone of Team India's batting lineup, is no longer a pick for the selectors for the upcoming T20 World Cup. According to a report published by Dainik Jagran, 'Virat Kohli's spot for the T20 World Cup is not guaranteed.' If not Kohli, then Ishan Kishan is the frontrunner for the No.3 spot.

In the recent five-hour-long meeting held in New Delhi, attended by the BCCI officials including secretary Jay Shah, vice president Rajeev Shukla, and treasurer Ashish Shelar, a panel of selectors led by Ajit Agarkar, head coach Rahul Dravid discussed a road map for the team's future. The meeting was also attended by skipper Rohit Sharma, who is in London right now, through webcam.

The report suggests that selectors will sit with Virat Kohli, who hasn't played any T20 game since 2022, to talk about his plans and availability for the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated for June 2024. If he doesn't agree then the team will look forward to his replacement at the number 3 spot, which is Ishan Kishan for now.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the USA next year, before which, the team will play 6 T20 games, 3 against South Africa and 3 against Afghanistan.

Virat Kohli, who emerged as the highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023, is surely the first choice on any day, but if he doesn't agree to play the shortest format, then things may go in favor of Ishan Kishan.

However, the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will surely help Kohli to make up his mind.
