Ishan Kishan And Shreyas Iyer Dropped From BCCI's Central Contract, Here's Why

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday removed Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from its central contract. According to the reports, the board has taken strict action against Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer after they prioritized franchise cricket over domestic cricket.

The announcement for annual player contracts for senior men's Team India is for the 2023-24 season (October 1st, 2023 to September 30th, 2024).

The BCCI included Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja in the A+ category. While, R Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Hardik Pandya have been named under the Grade A category.\

Group B comprises Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

However, 15 players namely Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar have been listed in Grade C contract section.

The board underlined that if Dhruv Jurel, who played a match-winning knock against England in Ranchi, and Sarfraz Khan, who impressed everyone with his skillful batting, get to play the next test, Dharamshala Test, then they will be considered under grade C.

The BCCI's selection committee has also recommended special fast bowling contracts for Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa.

Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said that strict actions will be taken against players who are not participating in the domestic leagues when they are out from the national team despite being in the central contracts.
