IPL 2026 Playoff Race: What Each Team Needs to Qualify for the Playoffs

The IPL 2026 playoff race has entered a thrilling final phase, with eight teams still fighting for four spots as the league stage heads towards its conclusion. While Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are closest to qualification, teams like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have kept themselves alive with strong late-season comebacks.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB are currently in one of the safest positions among all contenders. With 14 points from 11 matches and a strong Net Run Rate, Rajat Patidar's side likely needs one more win to move within touching distance of qualification and two wins to seal a playoff berth comfortably. Matches against KKR, Punjab Kings and SunRisers Hyderabad will decide whether they finish in the top two.

Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans are almost through to the playoffs with 16 points from 12 games. Shubman Gill's team has once again shown consistency with both bat and ball and remains a favourite to finish in the top two. One more victory from their remaining games against KKR and CSK should officially confirm qualification.

SunRisers Hyderabad

SRH have emerged as one of the form teams of the tournament after recovering from a slow start. Pat Cummins' side sits on 14 points and needs at least one more win from matches against Chennai Super Kings and RCB to strengthen their playoff chances. Their positive Net Run Rate could become crucial in a tight finish.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have suddenly slipped into danger after losing four consecutive matches. Despite remaining in the top four with 13 points, PBKS are now under pressure heading into crucial fixtures against Mumbai Indians, RCB and SRH. Two wins should be enough to qualify, but another defeat could seriously damage their hopes.

Chennai Super Kings

CSK have scripted one of the biggest turnarounds of the season after losing their first three matches. The five-time champions now need a near-perfect finish to qualify. Wins against Lucknow Super Giants, SRH and Gujarat Titans may be necessary for MS Dhoni's side to secure a top-four place safely.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR's playoff hopes looked over midway through the season, but four consecutive victories have revived their campaign. Ajinkya Rahane's side can still reach a maximum of 17 points, which could be enough for qualification. However, KKR not only need to keep winning but also depend on favourable results involving Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals remain in contention despite inconsistent performances in the second half of the season. With 12 points from 11 games, RR likely need to win at least two of their remaining three matches and hope other results go their way. Their upcoming games against Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians give them a realistic chance to stay alive till the end.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals face the toughest qualification scenario among all remaining contenders. Axar Patel's side has only 10 points from 12 games and can reach a maximum of 14 points. Even if Delhi win their remaining matches, they will still need multiple results from other teams to fall in their favour along with major improvements in Net Run Rate.

Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants have already been eliminated, while the rest continue battling in what has become one of the most competitive playoff races in recent IPL history.
