IPL 2026: BCCI Cracks Down On Unauthorised Visitors At Team Hotels

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has stepped up enforcement of IPL conduct and security rules after several incidents involving players hosting unauthorised visitors at team hotels during IPL 2026. The Board's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) is now pushing franchises to ensure stricter compliance with hotel stay protocols, visitor restrictions and late-night movement regulations.

The latest concerns emerged after a player was reportedly found repeatedly hosting guests in his hotel room late at night during the tournament. The incident triggered immediate attention from the BCCI ACU, which contacted the team management for an explanation. However, officials were reportedly dissatisfied with the response, believing the matter was not handled seriously enough.

Under IPL operational guidelines, players and support staff are expected to follow strict hotel security procedures designed to prevent corruption risks, unauthorised access and outside interference during the tournament. Franchises are also expected to maintain proper records of visitors and ensure team members avoid private late-night meetings in hotel rooms.

Following the recent developments, several IPL teams have now introduced fresh internal instructions for players. According to franchise officials, cricketers have been told to seek permission before inviting family members or friends to team hotels. Teams are also encouraging players to meet guests only in public areas such as hotel lobbies, restaurants or common spaces where officials can maintain oversight.

Franchises have additionally warned players against entertaining visitors after 10 PM, with stricter monitoring likely to be implemented for the remainder of IPL 2026. Officials believe these steps are necessary to protect tournament integrity and support the BCCI's anti-corruption measures.

Former IPL team officials say enforcing rules consistently can sometimes become difficult when senior or high-profile players are involved. In some cases, players allegedly rely on their stature within the squad or close ties with franchise owners to bypass restrictions without facing disciplinary action.

One franchise official admitted that exemptions have occasionally been granted in the past but said teams are now looking to introduce constant checks to ensure rules are followed more uniformly. At the same time, franchises are also trying to avoid excessive intrusion into players' personal privacy while complying with BCCI regulations.

The developments highlight the BCCI's growing focus on tightening IPL security and discipline standards as the league continues to expand in profile and commercial value.
