IPL 2025: Zaheer Khan Set To Join This Team As Mentor
Lucknow Super Giants are preparing to welcome former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their mentor before the IPL mega auction. This move signals the 45-year-old's return to the IPL after a two-year hiatus, having previously been with Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. A formal announcement is expected at the RPSG Group Headquarters in Kolkata on Wednesday. "Zaheer has been appointed as team mentor and the unveiling will happen later today," sources informed PTI.
Zaheer's new role fills the gap left by Gautam Gambhir, who joined Kolkata Knight Riders last year and led them to an IPL title in 2024. Gambhir now serves as India's head coach. At Mumbai Indians, Zaheer initially worked as the director of cricket before transitioning to head of global development.

Zaheer Khan's IPL Journey
Before his coaching career, Zaheer played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils over ten seasons. He appeared in 100 matches, taking 102 wickets with an economy rate of 7.58. His last IPL appearance was in 2017 when he captained Delhi Daredevils before retiring from all forms of cricket.
LSG currently lacks a bowling coach following Morne Morkel's departure to join Gambhir's coaching staff. Zaheer is expected to contribute to scouting and player development during the off-season.
Coaching Staff Changes
Justin Langer remains LSG's head coach after replacing Andy Flower before the last IPL season. He continues with deputies Lance Klusener and Adam Voges. The addition of Zaheer Khan aims to strengthen LSG's coaching team further.
The appointment of Zaheer Khan is seen as a strategic move by LSG to leverage his extensive experience and expertise in cricket both as a player and a coach. His involvement is anticipated to bring valuable insights into player development and team strategy.
