IPL 2024: Virendra Sehwag Criticises Skipper Sam Curran, Says He Doesn't Deserve To Be In Punjab Kings' Team

Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a great platform for domestic and international cricketers to showcase their skills and prove the metal as the tournament's standards are way too high. However, the clash of the Titans also exposed overrated players. Recently, during a chat show, former India cricketer Virendra Sehwag criticised English all-rounder Sam Curran, who is leading Punjab Kings in the absence of regular captain Shikhar Dhawan.

Analyzing Sam Curran's performance, who promoted himself to the top of the batting order. The Englishmen failed to score big runs and even could not impress with the ball as well. In the previous games against Gujarat Titans, he leaked 18 runs in 2 overs as the visitors chased the low total of 143 runs easily.

Virendra Sehwag Criticises Sam Curran

Sharing his unfiltered thoughts, Sehwag said if would have been the coach or selector, he would have not even named Sam Curran in his team.

"I wouldn't keep Sam Curran as a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder. Because such a player is of no use, who does some batting and some bowling. Either you win the game with your batting or win the game with your bowling. Either you hit the bullseye or you don't perform at all," said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

Former cricketer underlined that Punjab's batting and bowling did not perform up to the mark and their way to playoffs is very tough now.

Sam Curran too admitted that the team needs to play better to qualify for the next round. After the Gujarat vs Punjab match, Sam Curran had said, "I think so (we were 10-15 short). The effort with the ball was incredible, and the commitment and fight were amazing, but it was not enough. The Afghanistan spinners are world-class bowlers and Sai Kishore bowled really well, credit to them. That is the third time we have used that pitch, anything above 160 would have been a par total but we still fought well. Prabhsimran played really well in the powerplay but unfortunately, we lost a cluster of wickets after that. Now we know what to do, we have to win every game."
