IPL 2024: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Sets Highest Total Record, Pat Cummins Calls Pitch A "Batting Beauty"
Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi Stadium witnessed a record-setting match between the home side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI). With power-packed performances by Heinrich Klaasen (80), Travis Head (62), Abhishek Sharma (63), and Aiden Markram (42), SRH smashed 277 runs, which is now the highest total in IPL history. It was a complete entertainer for cricket lovers as Mumbai batted in the same style. It was the first time that over 500 runs were scored in a single match in the IPL 2024 edition.
Another record of 38 sixes in a match was also set during match number 8 of the cash-rich league.

Describing Rajiv Gandhi Stadium's pitch as a batting beauty, SRH captain Pat Cummins, in the post-match conference, said: "That was insane. The ball was really pinging around. Not until we bowled, it got a bit too close for comfort. They found a boundary whenever they needed it, but we finished it off well".
"You never play for 270, but we wanted to be positive and be aggressive, take the game on. It was a good wicket, so we have to suck it up knowing we would go for a few boundaries. What's important is to have clear plans with the ball. There was an amazing atmosphere in the ground, enjoyed playing here, was incredibly loud," Pat Cummins said after registering his first win in IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya too lauded the SRH batters for scoring big and gave credit to the solid batting track. However, he underlined the fighting spirit his team showed despite the Opposition's massive total.
"Wicket was good, 277 no matter how bad or good you bowl, if the opposition has to score that much, they have batted well," Pandya said.
"Close to 500 runs were scored so the wicket was helping the batters. We could have tried a few different things, but we have a young bowling attack and I liked what I saw today. If the ball goes this much in the crowd, it's definitely different to run around and complete the overs in time. Everyone batted really well, counting Tilak, Ro, Ishan. There are just few things we need to do right and we'll be alright," Pandya added.
