India's victory:

Skipper Rohit Sharma led the team from the front as he played a crucial role in achieving this victory against New Zealand. This win marked India's third Champions Trophy title. The memory of their defeat against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final loomed large before the match at Dubai International Stadium.

Rohit faced significant pressure, with media speculating about his future if India lost. However, he rose to the occasion, guiding India to become the only team with three Champions Trophies. Rohit also became the first Indian captain to win consecutive ICC trophies.

New Zealand's Innings

New Zealand batted first but struggled initially as Will Young and Kane Williamson were dismissed early. Rachin Ravindra showed promise during the powerplay but was out after scoring 37 runs off 29 balls. Daryl Mitchell steadied the innings with a composed half-century under pressure.

Glenn Phillips contributed 34 runs before Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him. Michael Bracewell then took charge, scoring an unbeaten 53 off 40 balls. Thanks to these efforts, New Zealand set a target of 251 runs for India. Varun and Kuldeep Yadav each claimed two wickets for India.

India's Chase

Rohit provided a strong start for India despite losing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli early. He scored 76 runs off 83 balls, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record for most ODI runs by an Indian captain. After Rohit's dismissal, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel built a partnership of 61 runs.

This partnership set up India's chase, though neither could finish the game; Shreyas scored 48 while Axar made 29. KL Rahul then took charge with an unbeaten knock of 34 runs, supported by Hardik Pandya's contribution of 18 runs.

The match concluded with Rahul and Jadeja steering India to victory as celebrations erupted in the dressing room when Jadeja hit the winning runs.
