IND vs AUS 4th T20: No Electricity In Parts Of Raipur Stadium Due To Unpaid 3.16 Cr Bill

With just hours to go for India vs Australia 4th T20, a report from NDTV dispelled concerns of an electricity crisis at Raipur's Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh stadium. It has been learnt that the electricity bill has not been paid by the stadium authorities since 2009. The report claimed that Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh stadium has an outstanding bill of Rs 3.16 crore and the electricity department had cut the stadium's connection 5 years ago.

There might be a total blackout in some parts of the stadium, while the spectators' gallery and boxes will get electricity through a temporary connection, that was installed after a request of the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association. The floodlights during today's day and night match would be powered using a generator.

Raipur Rural Circle in-charge Ashok Khandelwal said that the Secretary Cricket Association has sought an extension for the temporary power connection at the stadium.

This is not the first time that the state cricket body has to face such disgrace. Earlier in 2018, athletes participating in the half-marathon had complained about no electricity supply at the stadium.

Since, the development of the stadium, its maintenance was the Public Works Department's (PWD) job, and the rest of the expenses were to be borne by the state sports department. For the hefty outstanding amount, both the departments have been blaming each other, and nobody is ready to take responsibility.

So far, in the five-match series, India is ahead with a 2-1 lead, and on Friday evening, Suryakumar Yadav along with his team will try to seal the series. On the other hand, Mathew Wade and men will eye to level the scores and go for the series decider at Bengaluru.
