Gautam Gambhir's Homecoming: Former KKR Captain Returns As Mentor

Gautam Gambhir has returned home, leaving his role as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants on November 21, and rejoining the Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The former India opener, who led KKR to victory in 2012 and 2014, will resume his stint with the franchise as a mentor, collaborating closely with head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

Following his departure from the Lucknow Super Giants, Gambhir shared a heartfelt note, reflecting on his time as their mentor since the inception of the KL Rahul-led team in 2022.

Having played a crucial role in the Lucknow Super Giants' operations alongside former head coach Andy Flower, who previously exited the team, Gambhir expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making his journey memorable. He particularly thanked Dr. Sanjiv Goenka for his leadership and unwavering support. Gambhir conveyed his confidence in the team's future successes, wishing them the best.

This move marks an emotional return for Gambhir to the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he previously captained the team to significant victories. KKR announced Gambhir's return as a mentor, reuniting him with head coach Chandrakant Pandit.

Gambhir's prior association with KKR from 2011 to 2017 was marked by remarkable achievements. During his tenure, the team clinched the title twice, secured playoff berths five times, and reached the finals of the Champions League T20 in 2014, showcasing their historic accomplishments. After leaving KKR, Gambhir briefly played for the Delhi Capitals before joining the Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor.
